Lynx Media Player
The shared media foundation for the Lynx suite: an abstract media storage mixin with automatic metadata extraction, a filestore-backed streaming helper for controllers, and a reusable OWL component for audio and video playback with clickable timestamps and chapters.
Building a custom media stack per module fragments behaviour and quality. This module ships the pieces once: media upload with duration/type auto-detection, memory-efficient HTTP streaming with native Range support, plus a player component for backend forms and public website pages. Podcast, radio, recordings and council meeting modules all build on it.
Key Features
Media storage mixin - lynx.media.mixin with file upload, external URL, auto-detected audio/video type, MIME type and file size.
Metadata extraction - duration and video metadata via ffprobe, mutagen, then byte-level parsing fallbacks.
Streaming helper - controllers serve binary fields from the filestore with native HTTP Range/206 through ir.binary streams.
Audio processor - ffmpeg-backed measurement (sample rate, duration, EBU R128 loudness) and loudness conforming via lynx.audio.processor.
Audio and video playback - local files and YouTube / Vimeo embeds in the same OWL component.
Clickable timestamps - jump to any point from agenda items, transcript segments, or chapter list.
Chapter navigation - structured chapter markers with titles for long-form content.
Backend and public - works inside Odoo form views and on public website pages.
